WESTBY, Robert Jarvis (1805-1821).  Gold mourning brooch. An oblong gold brooch (26 x 20mm) consisting of a central plaited hair arrangement protected under a glazed cover, bordered by seed pearls surrounded by a white enamel band and sculpted metal borders. On the reverse is a pin and suspension loop with a chain, and the engraved inscription: Robt. Jarvis Westby died 18 July 1821 Aged 16. In excellent condition. 

Robert Jarvis Westby was christened 3 July 1805, the only child of the Rev. Simon Westby and Hannah (nee Hubbard) of Diss, Norfolk. His father Simon Westby was born in Holt, Norfolk, was ordained deacon in 1777, priest in 1778, and graduated from Caius College Cambridge B.D. in 1791. He served as Vicar of Kenninghall and Master of Diss School until his death in 1820. A ledger-stone in St Mary's church, Kenninghall, Norfolk, records the interment of the family as follows:

BENEATH Are interred the remains of SIMON WESTBY
  B.D. He was thirteen years Vicar of this Parish and died at
Diss near this Town the 4th of May 1820 Aged 65 Years, much
lamented by his Parishioners. Also ROBERT JERVIS
WESTBY his only Son who died in a decline the 18th of July
1821 Aged 16 Years. And also of HANNAH Relict of the Late
REVD. SIMON WESTBY who died Febry 7th 1844 Aged 80
